Our Philosophy
The philosphy of the show is to build a community within the parent- teacher group while raising funds for the school. To be in the Ham on Regal cast, you must have a student currently enrolled at Ferris or be a member of the Ferris staff. Band members, however, may come from throughout the community (although many of our band members are Hambones.)
First time “Hammies” are sometimes shy and reluctant to be on the stage, but the jitters soon give way to the “Ham”side of their personality and the show soon comes to life. There really aren’t any starring roles in Ham on Regal. Most parts are a few lines per scene. There are also many areas of the show that need your talents on stage including singing groups, dances, and non-speaking parts.
Our Code of Ethics – The Eight C’s
Ham on Regal is an inclusive organization guided by the following Eight Code of Ethics:
Continuity — We, the Ham on Regal Players, have been entrusted with maintaining the continuity of this unique and outstanding fundraising tradition. Our participation not only strengthens the parent–school partnership but also creates and sustains friendships in a creative, wholesome and fun environment. We have a responsibility to our children, and the future parents of Ferris High School to ensure the perpetuation of this worthy activity.
Contribution — Each participant’s contribution to the Ham on Regal experience is unique, special and necessary for its success. Everyone contributes at a level that is appropriate and all levels of participation are to be appreciated and respected.
Consideration — Every participant is allotted time “in the spotlight.” All participants should refrain from intentionally detracting from, interfering with, or otherwise disrupting another actor’s, dancer’s, singer’s or instrumentalist’s performance. Your time to be a “Ham” will be established by the director. Be creative during your part, but let others have their time to shine.
Conduct — Each participant must strive to maintain an exemplary level of personal conduct at any Ham on Regal official function or where any group of participants may be recognized as Ham on Regal Players. Any disruptive, malicious or lewd behavior by any Ham on Regal Player(s) can seriously damage our reputation and credibility as examples to our children and as representatives of Ferris High School and our community.
Content — The script, choral lyrics, props and set design are the result of hundreds of hours of cooperative work to ensure that they meet our objectives of family entertainment. Their content should not be intentionally or arbitrarily changed by any participant without the permission and concurrence of the director and the show chairs. Anyone requesting or suggesting a change must submit it in writing to the director or show chairs for consideration.
Compliance — Every participant is expected to follow the rules and regulations which govern the Parent Teacher Group (PTG), Ham on Regal, Ferris High School and Spokane Schools. If there is a conflict with the rules the show chairs will attempt to find a way for a player to participate within the rules.
Commitment — Ham on Regal is committed to the safety of the audience and cast members. Participant’s should not use, dispense, or throw any unapproved materials, objects or props at other participants or the audience. All participants share the responsibility of preventing activities and situations that may be unsafe. Please notify the show chairs of any perceived dangers on the set, facilities or actions of other players.
Community – We embrace one another through fellowship as result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals. Promote a sense of belonging by accepting and supporting each other despite differences and by giving of oneself for the benefit of the show and people.
